Ojamiren Patience Aimalokhi touching lives through Community Development Service(Medical CDS)

Ojamiren Patience Aimalokhi of the medical CDS,Nembe BASSAMBIRI once again leads a campaign on menstrual health and Sex Education. She was inspired by the fact that a good number of parents have failed to bond with their children and in doing so failed to make the children understand the changes that occur in their system.

As an adage goes, train a woman and train a nation. Patience has focused monumental attention on making sure the girl child understands the changes that occur in her system through conducting this campaign on menstrual health and Sex Education. This is to attempt to curb unwanted pregnancies by what she termed " Children by Choice not Chance". Also to ensure that they add to the already existing knowledge they have without mincing words and also to ensure they don't solely depend on the alternative of learning from inexperienced AGE-GRADE.

The campaign cut accross several secondary schools especially those within her jurisdiction housing female children, adolescents as well as adults.

Patience although not a healthcare professional was moved to embark on this journey, she was supported by Anyiam kennedy Ekenedirichukwu,a human anatomist who also did a great job in sensitizing the students about menstrual health as well as the physiological changes that occur within the body.
Other friends supported in the distribution of pads and crowd control.

A lot were explained including:
The four phases of menstrual cycle
Ovulation and it's significance
Abdominal cramps, bowel issues, tender breasts, fatigue, mood swings including migraines as well as hormonal changes particularly SEROTONIN.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that often sets off migraine and headaches when its levels fluctuate. Estrogen may increase serotonin levels and the number of serotonin receptors in the brain at certain points during the menstrual cycle, setting off migraine attacks in those who are prone to them when the interplay reverses.

More than 50 percent of women who get migraine report an association between the occurrence of migraine and their period. Migraine attacks might occur before, during, or immediately following menst

ruation.

We also explained basic terms like:
Dysmenorrhea- scanty mentrual flow
Amenorrhea- little or no menstrual flow
Hypermenorrhoea- heavy menstrual flow

They were enjoined to abstain from sex and always observe hygiene.
At the end of the campaign SANITARY PADS WERE GIVEN TO THE FEMALE CHILDREN. They were also advised not to use unhealthy materials during the cyclical changes that every female faces.
