SURVEY BAYELSA INITIATIVE LED BY MEDICAL CDS OPU-NEMBE, BAYELSA STATE

Bayelsa state is one of the most susceptible states in terms of danger exposure in Nigeria. This is due to it's geographical distribution among other factors. Recently, the state was ravaged by Flood. Millions were affected directly and indirectly. Claimed the lives of many, others displaced alongside other disheartening occurences.

The government,NGOs and several other collaborating agencies did the much they could to alleviate the effect of the flood by providing relief to the affected residents. The government, despite their Goodwill and intensified efforts cannot come to the aid of everyone. Hence calling for the aid of people of Goodwill to complement their great efforts.

This led to the SURVEY BAYELSA INITIATIVE (SBI) postulated by a group of corpers serving in Nembe LGA of Bayelsa state. Th

e medical CDS group of OPU-NEMBE community, Nembe LGA, bayelsa State took it upon themselves to collect relevant data accross the state aimed at helping the government plan better and identify areas which need more aid while intensifying efforts to draw government attention to such areas and invariably persons affected.

PATTERN OF OPERATION
I. Survey forms were created and distributed within the state through corps members serving in such areas which the initiating corps members could not collect entries from physically
II. The host community and a number of sister communities were covered Including ogbo polo, SIKAKA POLO, DERRI-AMA,ILULU, OROAMABIRI and OGBOLOMABIRI

DURATION OF CAMPAIGN
ONE WEEK

LIMITATIONS
A lot of expectations and targets were set before the campaign Including getting entries From atleast 10,000 residents through varying methods of sampling and using SPSS tools like ANOVA for analysis.
LIMITATIONS Include:
I Finances: we were unable to collect relevant number of entries due to lack of financial motivation to persons involved especially those away from the program initiators who don't have as much zeal as they do.
II Compliance: many persons do not feel comfortable giving honest information to strangers.
Among other reasons

Due to the above stated reasons the project did not record as much success as anticipated. Nonetheless the following successes were recorded:
I Opu Nembe and Nembe city were not affected by the flood directly but were affected by inflation in prices of goods and services
Ii. The DPO covering OPU-NEMBE and Nembe city SP. JONATHAN SAMUEL confirmed that there were minimal occurences of crime despite the present situation, this was confirmed by the ASP. UKPEFA MIETE
III several other residents were interviewed including the aged, students, married, market women,Muslims änd health personnel
IV Health professionals in Nembe also confirmed that the access to healthcare facilities was swift as ever as many residents are beneficiaries of the BHIS programme enjoying free medical care from the state
V However other locations recorded a different story some were displaced, died, businesses were affected, others bereaved.

About 378 persons were physically interviewed and 580 online entries gotten from Ogbia,Ekeremo, brass and Yenagoa which sadly was not enough to draw notable conclusion.

Nonetheless, the initiators led by Anyiam Kennedy (Bsc,BLS,ACLS) others (Oghenevwogaga Patrick,Alayande Stephen,Jesutomi,Adaeze and a host of others)were applauded by the communities and their LGI Sir Poiba Henry for  their keen interest towards  bringing sustainable development to not just their host community but bayelsa in general.
