ANYIAM KENNEDY BACKS S.A.E.D COORDINATOR TO HOST FIRST S.A.E.D DISPLAY
Anyiam Kennedy E (the corps liaison officer,Nembe LGA) has held several meetings with the Local Government Inspector (L.G.I) on the need to inspire corps members to learn skills and crafts in other to become financially independent. This was particularly difficult because Nembe is a remote location devoid of electricity and certain social amenities and the locals do not have the literacy to educate corps members on new skills.
Corps members take advantage of this and decide not to make impact as well as learn new skills to improve themselves.
Recently, Anyiam Kennedy finally decided to take the bull by the horn by taking a drastic decision alongside his team. The first thing he did was to collaborate with the necessary authorities and make Skill Acquisition compulsory for all corps members in the L.G.A
He also appointed Obialor Chidimma as S.A.E.D Coordinator and Dimkpa Samuel as assistant and urged them both to conduct a display as soon as possible.
In no time, corps members who were initially reluctant began to see the need after the leaders lead by examples and organized trainings among corps members who have existing skills such as:
Shoe making
Bead making
Bag making
Barbing
And other skills.
Anyiam Kennedy sourced for funds through his office from the Chairman Council of chiefs as well as the Opu-Nembe Improvement Union and soon he urged the corps members to prepare for an exhibition where all they needed to do was display their wares and interested community members would buy. It would also serve as a source of income for the corps members
The day came 25th April,2023 and all corps members with different crafts displayed their wares ranging from
Shoes
Beads
Slippers
Local boxes
Wig making, and lots more
It was a dream come true for the corps members and for Anyiam Kennedy, it was proof that nothing was impossible when there is an inspiring leader.
The corps members were commended by the L.G.I,Mrs Rebecca James who also urged them to continue in the footsteps of their leader Anyiam Kennedy E. She also emphasized on the need to have different skills and be self-reliant in our world today.
